Rome (DPA) — A fire broke out at a Tesla car dealership in Rome early on Monday, damaging 17 electric cars and leaving some of them seriously impacted, the Italian fire brigade reported.

The fire started at 4:30 am (0230 GMT) and was extinguished during the course of the day. Damage was also inflicted on the showroom building, where some Teslas were parked, according to the fire brigade.

The cause of the fire remains unclear and investigations are ongoing. Various lines of investigation are being pursued and arson is not being ruled out, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Tesla vehicles have recently been set on fire in various locations across the United States in protest at Tesla founder Elon Musk and his role as US President Donald Trump’s cost-cutter-in-chief.

Earlier this month, four Teslas were set on fire in Berlin. Other attacks have targeted Tesla dealers and charging stations for the electric cars.
